Why I Built EasyEnzyme
Hi, I’m Stewart.
I created EasyEnzyme after being diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis and discovering that managing pancreatic enzymes with meals involves a surprising amount of guesswork.
If you take enzymes, you’ll probably recognise the familiar moment just before eating when you look at your plate and think:
“Right… how many enzyme capsules does this need?”
When I spoke to my gastroenterologist, the advice I received was quite general — which makes sense medically — but it sometimes felt as though it assumed I would be eating the same meals every day.
In reality, most of us don’t live on a carefully controlled diet of identical plates of food. One day it might be soup and toast, the next day a takeaway, and occasionally something far more mysterious that arrives at a restaurant table.
Trying to work out enzyme dosing for all of that can be… interesting.
Like many people managing pancreatitis or pancreatic insufficiency, I often found myself making an educated guess and hoping I’d got it about right.
Because I work in technology, I started wondering whether a simple tool could help estimate the size of a meal and provide a rough guide for enzyme dosing. So I built one.
What began as something I made for my own use slowly turned into something that other people with pancreatitis found helpful too.
EasyEnzyme is still a small personal project, but the idea behind it is simple:
to make enzyme dosing a little less mysterious and a little more predictable.
If it helps people feel more confident about managing enzymes with different meals, then it’s doing exactly what I hoped it would.
And if it occasionally saves someone from staring at their dinner and performing complicated mental calculations about fat content — that’s a bonus too.
